Could you be due late flight compensation following a delayed arrival to your destination? Here’s all you need to know.

When Could I Be Due Diverted Flight Compensation?

The EU261/2004 regulations are designed to protect victims in a number of situations. Subsequently, compensation for delayed flight compensation can cover a variety of different scenarios.

Whether you travelled for business or leisure isn’t important. A compensation claim for flight delays can be made in a number of situations. These include, but are not limited to:

Flight Delay Compensation: if your flight arrived late at its destination for whatever reason, including late take-off or delayed descent, you could file a claim.

Flight Diversion Compensation: sometimes an airline will send passengers to their final destination via a different route to the one that was booked. If you have suffered this situation, diverted flight compensation may be possible.

Cancelled Flights Compensation: if the airline pulled a flight and placed you on an alternative option, you could be due cancelled flight compensation.

Overbooked Flights Compensation: when airlines overbook, passengers may voluntarily take a different flight with some compensation. However, if you were forced to miss your scheduled flight due to overbooking, you could make a claim.

There are a variety of other situations that may deserve financial compensation. Ultimately, if you feel that the airline has failed to deliver the service you paid for, there’s a good chance that you are within your rights to file a claim.

When Am I Not Due Late Flight Compensation?

If you arrived only a few minutes late, then you are unlikely to be successful with any claim. The EU flight compensation regulations were established as a measure genuine victims of poor service.

However, if you’ve been delayed by over an hour, you are within your rights to file a claim. If you arrived several hours late, your airline delay compensation is well worth fighting for.

How Much Could I Be Paid?

As far as financial flight compensation is concerned, there are a number of elements to be considered. However, the EU flight delay regulations do stick to general guidelines. These ultimate stipulate that the level of payout is dictated by the distance covered and the length of delay.

Meanwhile, the cost of the flight will also play an important role in the total calculation. Here is a simple breakdown of what you can expect:

  • If a domestic flight is delayed by one to two hours, you can expect to gain delayed flight compensation of 200% up to a maximum of €250. This tier of compensation also reflects international flights delayed by up to four hours.
  • If your domestic flight was delayed by longer than two hours, you could be due 400% of the flight cost up to €600. International flights that are delayed by more than four hours are also due this level of EU flight compensation.

Compensations aren’t only influenced by domestic/international status. The distance covered can be equally influential with 1,500km and 3,500km serving as noteworthy parameters.

Those compensations are open to global passengers and can also cover flights that end outside of Europe. So even if you are travelling between two countries that you are not a citizen of, you can file a claim.
